From hemp straw to sustainable insulation
How to bring together supply and demand of biobased raw materials (hemp) to make construction more sustainable? De The solution
By working intensively together and thinking in terms of solutions. To this end, we set up the joint start-up BioBased Factory; a partnership between Koninklijke Oosterberg and Willemse Technical Solutions. Together, we developed a modular and mobile machine to separate the wooden core and bark of hemp stalks from the fibres. These fibres are used as insulation material in construction and the woody material can be made into boards. We placed the machines in containers on site at the farmer’s premises, and the whole process can be monitored remotely from an MCC room. All data is constantly collected and analysed; this way, we keep constantly improving the process of these mini factories. Read the full article here.
